Title: fire next time
Fandom: X-Men movieverse
Disclaimer: not my characters
Warnings: AU for X2
Pairings: Bobby/Rogue, implied Bobby/John
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 160
Point of view: third
Prompt: What if Bobby had followed John at Alkali Lake?

His head is still cloudy and hurting, and Rogue is gasping, clutching his hand through her glove. "Bobby?" she murmurs, a barely there whisper.

What is he doing? Letting John go out there alone—how long can he keep up the heat when the temperature is so close to freezing? John has no idea how to take care of himself.

"Bobby!" Rogue says again.

He forces himself to his feet, swaying for a moment. Rogue stares at him. He smiles sadly and can't think of any words to make this better. But a couple years of chastely staring at each other can't make up for over six of fire and ice clashing, of having each others' backs, of the passion John infuses into everything he does.

(When John attacked those cops outside his house, it was the most amazing thing he'd ever seen. He ignores what that means.)

"Bobby," she says.

"Goodbye," he responds and follows John into his element.

Title: dust
Fandom: Dark Angel
Disclaimer: not my characters
Warnings: AU
Pairings: Alec/Rachel
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 100
Point of view: third
Prompt: Alec/Rachel, he was never asked to kill her

Berrisford dies in his sleep, just passes away quietly. Rachel finds him when he doesn't come down to breakfast. The doctors say his heart gave out, years of stress and smoking finally taking their toll. (They're wrong, but what they don't know won't kill them.)

Simon leaves Rachel's life as easily as he came into it and no one ever connects those bones out in the woods with a young piano tutor.

When Manticore is destroyed and transgenics revealed to the world, Simon is no more than a fond memory and 494 leaves Seattle because there's no reason to stay.

Warnings: somewhat sad
Pairings: none stated
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 85
Point of view: third
Prompt: McCoy, letters to his daughter

They arrive with Uncle Jim, oldtime pieces of paper held together with an oldtime rubber-band.

"I found them," he tells her. "In his room. I didn't read them, but, uh..." He holds the bundle out. "They're addressed to you."

Her hands shake, tears making her vision blurry. "What about you?" she asks, slowly closing her fingers around the fragile pages.

He smiles, but his chin trembles. "I have a couple, too," he says.

They read them together, side-by-side, both crying and laughing by the end.

Title: brothers
Fandom: Supernatural
Disclaimer: not my characters
Pairings: John/Mary
Warnings: none
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 155
Point of view: third
Prompt: John/Mary/wee!Dean, "You're going to be a big brother"

Daddy picks him up from Sunday school and takes him out for ice-cream. Daddy shuffles around on his stool, barely eating any of his boring vanilla scoop while Dean happily chows through his chocolate with chocolate sauce and sprinkles.

"Dean," Daddy says. "Dean, there's something I need to tell you."

He looks up at Daddy.

"Now, kiddo, you know that Mommy and I love you, right?"

Dean nods, turns back to his ice-cream, and gets the last little chocolate juice out of the bowl.

"Dean," Daddy says. "Mommy's having another baby. You're gonna be a big brother."

He thinks about that for a minute. Vicky in his class has a big brother. He waits for her sometimes, and once he beat up George for making her cry.

Dean can do that. "Okay," he says, and holds out his empty ice-cream bowl. "More?"

Daddy smiles, bright and wide, and drops a kiss on his forehead.

Title: journey into self
Fandom: Dark Angel
Disclaimer: not my characters
Warnings: AU
Pairings: slight Ben/Alec
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 350
Point of view: third
Prompt: Alec/Ben AU, Even clones deserve a family

After failing on his first long-term, deep-cover mission, 494 chooses(chooses, a choice, his choice, finally) not to return to Manticore.

Instead, he travels southeast, away from woods and snow and The Mission, whatever that is. He goes to where it's warm almost year-round, where he can stop being a soldier(though he never once lets down his guard).

Manticore is searching for him, of course. But he doesn't let himself stick-out. He blends. They trained him to disappear.

Five months into his journey, he chooses(his own decision, and that will never get old) an old church for bedding down. He's always felt safe in churches, ever since he struck out on his own. He doesn't know why.

As he's settling into a corner far from the door, a place where he can see the whole sanctuary in one glance, a man walks in. He's young, and he moves like 494, and he smells like 494, and his eyes meet 494's through the darkness.

"Hello," the identical stranger says. "She told me you'd be here."

"She?" 494 asks, preparing himself to move.

His mirror holds up his hands. "I'm Ben," he says. "You should get a name too, if we're gonna be together now."

"I'm doin' just fine on my own, thanks," he snarls, launching to his feet.

Grinning, Ben moves to meet him.

They fight to a standstill, until 494 backs away, watching warily as Ben mirrors his actions.

"How about Alec?" he suggests. 494 cocks his head to the side, and Ben smiles. "It means defender."

494 licks his lips. "Why would I join you?"

Ben steps in close and 494 lets him. "Why did you come here tonight?" he asks instead of answering. Ben slowly lifts a hand, touches 494's face. "Come with me," he whispers. "Brother. Otherself."

494 leans into the touch. "Okay," he murmurs. Choosing.

Ben smiles. "Alec," he says. "She'll love you." His eyes flick past 494--Alec--and Alec turns his head to follow the gaze.

It's a painting, of a dark haired lady in a blue cloak, hands raised and palms toward the sky.

Dean is the BEST big brother ever. I kinda teared up a little with that one, knowing what's in store for them. And imagining young!John being unsure on how Dean would take to the news, God, so heart-warming and heart-melting and endearing *loves*
