Pairings: Azazel/John, John/Mary
Rating: PG13
Wordcount: 245
Point of view: third
Prompt: Azazel/John, his only hope lies with his worst enemy

He realizes, one foot already in the door, that everything has led to this point.

His baby boy is lying in a hospital bed and will never wake up. Whatever damage Azazel caused was compounded by that semi, and Dean is as good as dead.

Azazel did it, and Azazel can damn well undo it, and John knows that Dean will never forgive him.

The words roll off his tongue with ease and he wonders if this is how Mary felt, that night he died. If she hadn't made a deal, what would the world be like now? There wouldn't be a Sam, so would Azazel's choice be someone else, someone more likely to turn?

Doesn't matter. Mary made a deal, and now John is, and he hopes so very hard that neither of his boys ever do.

"John," Azazel purrs, grinning up at him. "Such a pleasure doing business with you."

John suffers through the kiss because Sam needs Dean, and the world needs Dean, and John needs to know that Dean's alive. When Azazel releases him, he goes straight to Dean and tries so hard not to cry, not to just scoop Dean up and cradle the boy to his chest like he hasn't since those nights just after the fire.

"I'm proud of you," he says. I'm proud of you and I love you and you can save us all, Dean, is what he means, and then he goes back to Azazel.

Prompt: Sam/Dean, last man standing

You know it always had to be you, Sam, Lucifer whispers, beckoning him closer. You know this is always where things were going. You know this is the only possible end.No, Sam says, shaking his head, backing up. No.

Dean looks from Satan to his little brother, useless knife clenched in his fist, and doesn't speak, but his eyes tell Sam everything.

Sam nods. Says no again and stands tall at his brother's side.

Dean says yes and Lucifer screams in frustration as Michael's wings unfurl, leaving Sam the last Winchester standing.

Prompt: any, the wrong side

Zachariah does not understand these foolish humans, these puny, little, fragile beings that his Father had loved above all else. He offers them the chance to change things, to save the world, and they practically spit in his face. Dean, especially.

Honestly, how many men have the chance to house Michael's glory? To destroy the Adversary? Zachariah cannot comprehend why Dean is so stubborn, so blind and confused.

There are only two sides here, after all. Heaven's… and Hell's. To deny one is to choose the other, and Dean clearly hates demons, loathes Hell. So why would he choose Hell over Heaven?

(What Zachariah does not see is the third side—the Winchesters'. And even if he saw it, he still wouldn't understand, and he'd believe that it, like any but his, to be wrong.)

Title: the third side
Fandom: Supernatural
Disclaimer: not my characters
Warnings: spoilers for season 5
Pairings: implied Sam/Gabriel
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 210
Point of view: third
Prompt: Sam/Gabriel, Gabriel choosing a side

He stays inside the circle for hours after it burns out, after the Winchesters and Castiel leave him. He thinks back to life before he left Heaven, to Michael and Sammael-Lucifer-Satan and endless, everlasting light. He remembers and he wonders and he hates God for what all has happened, but he loves God because it happened, too, and he's clearly been on Earth too long. He's even thinking like a human now.

He remembers when Sam begged him to return Dean to life, when Sam shoved him against the fence and threatened him, when Sam and Dean worked together to trick him, the archangel who went by Coyote for a few dozen centuries.

He remembers Sam asking him for help, to join them against both Heaven and Hell, and maybe that's not such a bad idea.

Dean and Sam can't be tracked by angelic methods, and who knew Castiel was so clever? Clearly, everyone's been underestimating the kid. But he'll be sticking close to the boys for the next few days, so all Gabriel(and it's so weird thinking of himself like that, after so long) has to do is find him.

He wonders if he'll get earnest!Sam, thankful!Sam, or pissed!Sam when he shows up. It'll be fun to find out.

Title: clichéd and beloved
Fandom: Supernatural

Warnings: anytime before season 3
Pairings: none stated
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 190
Point of view: third
Prompt:Sam/Dean, Diner, hotel and a car

This is home, Sam thinks, watching Dean flirt with the waitress. This is home, in a way Stanford never was, or Bobby's place, or that endless stream of motels and apartments when they were kids.

Nomads, Dean once called them. That fits now, too.

Dean glances out the window as Alice(or Susie or Becky or Lizzy) sashays away. "The car's fine," Sam tells him. "I've been watching; those punks haven't come back to mess with her."

"Good," Dean says, meeting Sam's gaze. "Imma kick their asses, Sammy. That alright with you?"

Sam looks past him to the Impala, gleaming in the hot afternoon light. "Yeah," he answers quietly.

This is home, after all, this clichéd little diner, that hotel room waiting up the road, and the Impala in the parking lot. This is home, and you protect your home from invaders, from threats and outsiders.

Dean greets Mandy(or Ethel or Lorraine or Candice) with a wide grin as she hands over their drinks and asks if they're ready.

"Why yes, young lady," he drawls, "we sure are."

Sam ducks his head to hide his smile.

Yeah, he thinks, this is home.

I'm glad I live in a time zone that often makes me an early responder.
Great as always, though I can't dare contemplate poor Sam as the last man standing-- the quiet hopefulness of the last piece is .....I want to say better, but what I mean is more suited to where I hope the show goes.

Seriously, the last piece is probably one of the best end scenes for the series that I can think of....just quietly going into the future. Is that the way you meant it, or am I reading it completely wrong??

I actually meant the last ficlet to be set in the early seasons, before all the angst. But as a future piece, it works too.

Thank you for reading!

"I'm proud of you," he says. I'm proud of you and I love you and you can save us all, Dean, is what he means.

I hope Dean heard what John didn't quite manage to say out loud ...

Me, too. Knowing him, though, probably not.

Thanks for reading!

These were great!! I really liked 'as our sad song plays' with dean saying yes and Sam saying no,you might have hit on something, without Sam Lucifer is weakened..
'the third side'-Gabriel referring to Castiel as'the kid' very cute. And I love your reference to the Trickster as Coyote,as he was known in Native American cultures.

These are all beautifully succinct, but the first one is my favorite because of the insight into John.

the third side
I'll go with a combination of thankful!Sam and pissed!Sam with a little bitchface thrown in for good measure. I love these sort of stream of consciousness things, especially of Gabriel. Archangel's must be this complex, right? *nods*
