Title: almost… but not quite
Fandom: Harry Potter
Disclaimer: not my characters
Warnings: spoilers for entire series
Pairings: canon and Harry/Draco
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 315
Point of view: third
Prompt: Harry/Draco, almost lovers

They could have been... very many things.

Maybe in another world, Voldemort took Harry instead of trying to kill him. Maybe there, Harry was raised by the Malfoys and became the Dark Lord's heir. Maybe Draco was his best friend and brother, maybe they became lovers.

And in another world, maybe Harry listened to Draco in the robe shop, or Draco said something different, or Dumbledore noticed how Harry's letter was addressed and sent someone to investigate, or someone had already investigated and gotten Harry to a healthier environment, or Lucius Malfoy followed up on his master's destroyer and took the boy himself, fashioned a dark lord to rule the world.

And in another world, maybe Harry took Draco's hand on the train. Maybe he was a bit more Slytherin, angry and ambitious, wanting to punish a world that never looked out for him. Maybe he flourished and grew and did great (terrible, yes, but great) things. Maybe Draco was his friend, his confidant, his mentor and then right hand as he outstripped Voldemort and Grindelwald, as Harry Potter became the name to fear.

And in another world, maybe Harry offered Draco help in sixth year, maybe Draco accepted. Or maybe after the war, they tried to put the past behind them, to mature beyond schoolyard grudges because they truly had never been enemies, just two boys caught up in a terrible situation, a spot of normalcy amongst the abnormal.

They could have been so many things. But in this world, they went their separate ways. They married and had children, and maybe their children could be something.

(I'm Albus, Albus Potter. My dad told me about your family.

Scorpius Malfoy. Grandmum saved your dad, you know.

So I've heard. Want a chocolate frog?

I suppose. Do you think you'll be in Gryffindor?

Maybe. But Dad said it doesn't matter where I go.

So did mine.)

Fandom: Supernatural

Rating: PG
Wordcount: 230
Point of view: third
Prompt: Sam & Dean (and anyone else), they almost got away

Dean's dying in a coma, Dad's quiet and tired, and Sam is silently freaking the fuck out, angry and bitter and so damn weary, and he's praying and praying and praying, on his knees in the chapel, by Dean's bed, staring at Dad and begging him to make everything better.

And Dad just looks at him, so very tired, and he says, "I got nothing, Sammy, I don't know, I can't-"

And this isn't what Sam wanted, when he asked Gabriel for a do-over, but he doesn't know that because Gabriel wiped everything away, all the future-knowledge, of angels and vessels and God walking the Earth.

This John Winchester doesn't know Azazel's name. This John Winchester doesn't make a deal. He thinks about it, he wants to, his fingers are itching to draw the symbols and his tongue keeps starting to form the words, but he doesn't know Azazel's name and Bobby Singer died a few weeks ago, neck sliced clean-through by Azazel's daughter.

This Dean Winchester listens to a reaper calling itself Tessa and will never house God's Sword. And this Sam Winchester's heart breaks, clutching close his brother's still-warm corpse, and dies during a routine hunt a month later.

And this John Winchester, in this world made by Gabriel's meddling, whispers yes with teary sigh when Michael steps into his dreams and asks him to help save the world.

Prompt: Dean/Sam, He almost convinces Sam not to go to Stanford

He could do it. He could open his mouth and ask Sam to stay, or say he's so proud of him, or mention how it'll be harder to hunt, more dangerous, with one less pair of eyes.

He could get down on his knees, or press Sam against the wall, or whisper into his mouth stay, stay, don't leave me.

He could.

(He could also go with Sammy, get out of this life, make something of himself, but who will look into the dark and fight the monsters if he doesn't? Who will die if he's not there to save them?)

But he just looks away when Sam turns to him after Dad's angry and hurt declaration, and Sam storms out the door.

He almost follows.

Prompt: John/Dean, the day they almost told each other how they felt

Sometimes, John really can't help how he looks at Dean. It's just... he's so damned beautiful. He looks so much like Mary.

And Mary would castrate John for thinking these things, he knows she would, and that's usually enough to make him stop. To go cool off with a shower or a ten-mile run or a visit to the nearest bar for a willing body.

But it's getting more difficult because Dean is starting to catch on. And he's so eager to please... John knows that if he ever said the word, Dean would obey. And that kind of power, it's really fucking with John's mind.

And there Dean is, just watching him back. Waiting. John's pretty sure he'd offer, if John ever did anything more than hint with a look, and Mary would destroy him for the way his gaze slides down Dean's body.

John would destroy anyone he saw giving his boy that look. And Dean is his boy, his son, his soldier.

Dean's mouth opens, and that's when Sam slams through the door, already ranting about something that happened at school.

John breathes, closes his eyes, and swears to Mary nothing will ever come of this.

Title: curtain call
Fandom: Leverage
Disclaimer: not my characters
Warnings: speculation of character death
Pairings: none
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 230
Point of view: third
Prompt: Eliot + team, one of these days, they were going to lose Eliot and never see it coming

They all try not to think about it. You know. That final job. The curtain call. The one twist to the con that Nate can't plan for and--

Yeah. It's always in the back of their minds, is this it? is there where I fall, fail, let them all down? is this that day?

But even more than Sophie wondering if the mark is buying it, or Parker thinking maybe that rope is a little frayed, or Hardison worrying about whether or not the coding will hold up, or Nate trying to see a dozen steps ahead, Eliot thinks, this could be it, today, now, this could be it for me, and who'll protect them then?

And all of them, Sophie and Parker and Hardison and Nate, they all think that, too. Because he bleeds and he bruises and he breaks, for them, so they won't, and there's only so much a body can take.

It could be any day, any fight—he'll go down and not get up, he knows it, they all know it. And while they try to avoid wondering, he enters every fight like it'll be the last because he always fights harder if he thinks he'll never see them again.

Because if he's gone, then they might bleed and bruise (and he doesn't think they'll break, but they know better) and he's here so they never will.

Of course they're all so good, but the last stand of a dying man blew me away. Hard to believe that it was only 230 words, wow!

(His mother's eyes)

This was extremely powerful and so very good.
I loved John's denial, the way he tries to restrain himself, thinking about Mary, swearing to the memory of her that he won't ever scar his boy like that, although his need grows stronger and stronger and he *knows* Dean would be pliant. I loved how he's torn apart and frustrated by this situation, by his very own feelings, how sometimes he feels helpless but wants to stay strong. I loved the characterisation you gave to him, mostly, and how beautifully you wrote him.
Thank you.
