call for recs

So, I’ve been reading more than anything lately. So far, it’s all been rereads of my favorites, as I’d planned to read through my entire bookcase to see if I still wanted all the books on it. I have quite a few library books that I haven’t read before, but I’ll take recs, if anyone has anything in particular they think I’d enjoy.

I think you may have read the Vorkosigan Books by Lois McMaster Bujold, and may have also read "Curse of Chalion" by her, but I'm reccing both in case you haven't (my memory is awful :-( ).

Curse of Chalion is my favorite fantasy novel by anyone, ever, and Miles Vorkosigan helps me feel like I can keep going even in some very dark times.

So, I'm 3 chapters into Shards of Honor and just... I can't sink into it, I guess. Sorry. :(

No worries, Shards of Honour can be difficult to get into. I read it well after I'd started reading the Miles books, so I had more background/future knowledge for the Cordelia books. They've got a very different feel to them.

Thanks for giving them a try! :-)

Yeah, I have this unfortunate need to read/watch things in chronological order. (The only time I break this rule is when I truly cannot stand most of the show and am only watching for a certain character - like Highlander and Methos, and Bones and Sweets. But I can't break it for books.)

Oh me too usually. With this series I wound up reading a book quite far along in it first because I was haunting the sci fi section of the library at the time. that was the one they had in and it wasn't marked as book x of the series because the way Bujold writes, they're all self contained, just with continuity. read it, loved it then backtracked for the rest.

Very much not my usual habit with books though. Reading later books in the series before earlier books in most series' is too much like reading spoilers. XD

Genres?

Anything but romance. That includes fantasy romance or adventure romance or whatever.

(If romance happens during the course of the plot, that's fine; but no romance that the plot revolves around.)

I have not read most of those, actually.

However, another note: no child death or animal death, if possible. Or horror. Which ones should I remove?

I'm fond of The Emerald City of Oz. There's a really funny segment.
