I am madly in love with Kurt, especially in its worst moments ... so

Everyone is Born with the name of Their soulmate On Their hand

Kurt also, only... the owner of that name died (no matter as, only he's dead).

This can take many paths, Kurt would expect someone who never appeared, or could somehow know

I know it's confusing but that's the basic idea

In the beginning, when Kurt is very young, only the first letter of the first name is visible: B.

Mama and Kurt go through a dozen name books, Mama helping him sound out the hardest. Kurt says that it'll have to be Daddy's name, because he loves Daddy and he'll marry Daddy someday. Mama laughs and ruffles his hair, telling him that Daddy's already taken.

The day Mama dies, the rest of the letters fill in and Blaine is written out across his palm.

In a few years, Dad will tell Kurt that he's known since Kurt was three. That’s five years longer than Kurt knew.

Starting the January Kurt is ten, the last name starts appearing, a letter a month. By August, the whole thing is there: Anderson. Middle names appearing are rare, but Kurt can’t help wishing it had, too.

Kurt checks all of the local schools’ yearbooks, of course. And he still keeps his hand firmly hidden from everyone.

When Kurt is thirteen and walking to class, deftly avoiding the bullies, he trips over nothing, gasps because he suddenly can’t breathe, and passes out. There isn’t a mark on him, no physical reason for what happened. The doctor at the ER tells Dad that it was a reaction to something that happened to his soulmate.

“But he’ll be okay?” Dad asks, and the doctor assures him Kurt will be fine.

In November of ninth grade, one night Dad works late, Kurt is watching Project Runway reruns when pain suddenly flares in his ribs. His legs. His stomach, his back, his arms. He can’t even get the breath to scream, and he can’t move, can only try to ride it out. Finally, the pain recedes, except for a burning on his right palm.

He turns over his hand and watches, tears falling, as each letter vanishes, until only the B remains – and then his palm is empty.

His soulmate is dead.

Dad keeps Kurt home for the rest of the week. There’s mention of a gay bashing after a dance a few hours away; Dad quickly changes the channel, but Kurt goes to the internet.

Blaine Anderson died after a beating; his date, Marty Dyer, remains in critical condition. Charges are pending for the three boys who attacked them.

Blaine Anderson died at 9:17 pm. His name is no longer on Kurt’s palm. Kurt sobs himself to sleep for months.

Everyone knows what happens to the people whose hands are empty. They languish. They fall into depression.

Usually, they kill themselves. Dad knows that as well as Kurt does.

Somehow, the worst bully at school finds out Kurt no longer has a soulmate. Kurt hasn’t told anyone he’s gay, and nobody ever knew whose name Kurt had, but his tormenters take great delight in mocking him, taunting him, saying the worst possible things.

Kurt doesn’t even cry anymore.

And finally, in February, just after Valentine’s Day in Kurt’s freshman year, Dad can’t take it any longer. He sits Kurt down at the kitchen table and offers him a choice.

“We can move,” Dad says, “anywhere you want, kiddo. Or you can transfer. I found this school a couple hours away – they’ve got a no-bullying policy. It’s enforced, I checked.”

Kurt stares at the brochure Dad has, and then the information packet. He says faintly, “Can I think about it?”

Dad nods, and doesn’t bring it up again for a month.

But in March, bruises all down his back and limping, Kurt asks Dad, “Please, can we get out of this town?”

“Okay,” Dad says, and they begin listing all the requirements for a new place to live.

In fifteen years, when Kurt is working his way up in the fashion industry, when he’s dating someone new every few months, when he’s trying so hard to be happy… he’ll sit down, sometimes, wherever he is, and he’ll trace a B on his right palm. He’ll wonder about that boy. He’ll imagine all the lives they could’ve had.

Most people whose hands are empty suicide.

Kurt never does.

Title: Wednesday Addams joins glee club
Fandom: Glee/Addams Family (movies)
Disclaimer: not my characters
Warnings: takes place in senior year
Pairings: none
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 330
Point of view: third
Prompt: The Addams family moves to Lima. People Are Strange
. POV: Wednesday Addams

Mother wants Wednesday to try making friends. They're summering in Limo, Ohio, of all places – Father has an opportunity to further his empire and Mother refused to be separated from him, so all of them have come to Ohio.

Granny walks around the neighborhood, gathering dogs; Uncle Fester haunts the shadier elements of town; Mother cultivates her garden and commands Father's minions; Pugsley terrorizes the freshmen; Father stares at Mother and drools; Pubert stays with Granny or Mother, and occasionally Uncle Fester.

And Wednesday must make friends. In the lunchroom, sitting alone, she studies each of the groups. She ignores all the stares and whispers; no one approaches her except Pugsley, and after he is revealed as her younger brother, the students stay even further away.

But it is the third day at this school, and Mother wants them both to make friends. Pugsley has already taken over the 'punk' clique. Even the meanest bullies leave him alone. Pugsley has no restraint, unlike Wednesday.

She has no interest in any of the clubs or teams.

"Fascinating style," a boy says, sitting across from her at the table. "One of my friends used to wear something like that." He tilts his head, giving her an assessing stare. She sees no fear in his eyes.

That afternoon, she finds the boy in a room with a dozen other students and the ineffective Spanish teacher (Granny already taught her seven languages, and Mother three more).

"Hello!" the boy says. "Are you here to join?"

Everyone else stares, so very afraid. But the teacher overcomes his instincts, so sure that she is a helpless child like all the rest, and welcomes her with a big grin. "Hey!" he says. "I'm Mr. Schuester and this is the glee club. Like Kurt said –are you here to join?"

"I'm Wednesday Addams," she says, looking at all the strangers before back to Kurt, the boy from lunch. "And I am here to join."

Mother will be pleased.

The first story is so sad, but I'm glad Kurt could still live even if will never be perfect now. And the Addams Family crossover is brilliant, surprising story *hugs it* :D

I really did think about having Kurt kill himself in that one. I'm glad I decided not to.

Thank you for reading!

Ooh, people besides me like the Addams family fic? *claps*

Does this mean you'll, possibly, write more in this universe sometime?
Feb. 29th, 2012 03:21 am (UTC)

People love the Addams family! They're so awesome.

It's possible for me to come back to any 'verse. I never know for sure 'til it's written.

The list of worlds/pairing that I now want you to write about with the soul-hand story is growing by the second.
Feb. 29th, 2012 07:41 pm (UTC)

Ooh, do tell.

1. This would have to be handled delicately, but Dean/Sam would be an interesting story. I don't mean Wincest, but there's a soul deep connection (or maybe codependence) between them.

2. Oddly enough, I've been reading Sheldon/Penny in Big Bang Theory lately. Their differences seem to complement each other.

3. The Buffy-verse (my original 'fic love) has about a zillion ways to go. Buffy/Spike, or Angel (would vampires still have the soulmate name on their hand?); Willow/Tara (which formed before she dated Oz, maybe?); Dawn as an adult needs someone...

Let me think on this some more, or give me a 'verse and I'll come up with the pairings that sprouted when I read this Klaine story.
Mar. 6th, 2012 05:03 pm (UTC)

1. Well, if only the first name/nickname is on the hand, 'Sam' or 'Samuel' is fairly common. It might be odd to have your brother's name, but surely not unheard of. (Of course, feelings might change once they realize which Sam it means.) Are the hands always romantic, or can some be platonic? I haven't actually read many fics with that trope.

2. Sheldon/Penny! Oh, I haven't watched Big Bang Theory in so long.

3. I can't really write Buffy/Spike or Buffy/Angel, sorry. I'm pretty much a Xander girl. And I never was the biggest fan of Buffy herself. I wouldn't want to give you a subpar fic.

I'm writing mostly Glee lately, as you know. And Highlander (Methos!), and Norse mythology/Avengers movieverse. But I'll write almost anyting I have a passing familiarity with, so.
Mar. 6th, 2012 07:16 pm (UTC)
3. I'm not really a fan of Buffy herself either. I primarily read Willow or Xander (though rarely Willow/Xander). The B/A pairing just popped into my head based on the wondering if vamps would still have the marking, and the most likely soulmate pairing for Spike or Angel.
Mar. 7th, 2012 04:04 pm (UTC)

Since the vampire is different from the soul, I think the name would change. So, Liam/Angel would have a different name than Angelus, and so would William vs Spike. But then, when he began being a good guy on his own, before his soul was returned - maybe it would change again.

I have no idea.

How do you feel about Angel/Lindsey, or Xander/Spike?
Mar. 7th, 2012 10:13 pm (UTC)
It depends on how drippy/broody Angel is.

Xander/Spike was my first slash fic. :)
Feb. 29th, 2012 08:39 pm (UTC)
yes mother would be pleased....and she would kill and she would kill any one that hurts her new friend so mother should be very happy!

These are so great! The first made me so sad I almost teared up :* The soulmate idea is fascinating... Love that Kurt's strength shows through all that, though, and I love the second fic here :D Wednesday's voice is so awesome :)
May. 16th, 2012 02:52 am (UTC)

The Wednesday one was fun, I admit.

Hey, there!

Thanks to your awesome Transformative Works Statement, I've recorded Wednesday Addams joins glee club as a podfic! You can find the podfic download link, along with the rest of the podfic anthology it's a part of, right over here:

...it'll get crossposted to the AO3 eventually. Some day. In the future. When I'm done crying at the prospect of cross posting that many podfics all at once.

But, seriously, thank you so much for letting me play around in your sandbox! I had a really fun time with this story, and I'm so glad to be able to share it with the rest of the internet. Happy listening!
