Mary looks down at the newborn sleeping in her arms and thinks, sweetie, i'll keep it all away from you. you won't have to be a warrior like i was - i'll raise you on happier things. Her son will not be a hunter.

Warnings: ignores epilogue; future!fic; references to canon child endangerment and abuse
Pairings: Neville Longbottom/Luna Lovegood
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 235
Point of view: third
Prompt: Harry Potter, Neville Longbottom/Luna Lovegood, 'accidental garden manpain'

She thinks, sometimes, that she wouldn't mind lighting the extended Longbottom family on fire. Neville is perhaps the best person she's ever met, and he's still so uncertain, so sure that he isn't good enough, will never be good enough - for her, for Hogwarts, for himself.

Neville, who stood before Voldemort and killed Nagini, who kept the students as safe as he could.

Truly, if she could just perfect the Time-Travel Potion, she would go back and slaughter them all for what they've done to her Nev.

She finds him in the garden, of course, murmuring a story to the Chokevine he insists doesn't have a crush on him. "Will they bloom tonight?" she asks, as she does every time.

"At dusk," he answers, as always, fingers tracing the plant invisible even to her until the sun begins to set. He's so gifted, but even now, twenty years since they were students, the best-beloved Head of Gryffindor Hogwarts has ever had -

"You, my love, are the best man I've ever known," she says.

"Even when you perfect that potion," he says, "I won't let you go back and change things."

She nods, because she truly understands the dangers of time travel. If she punishes the lot of them, what will happen to the man she loves? He'll never be.

"Can threstrals eat Chokevines?" she asks after a moment, leaning into Neville's strong chest.

He sighs.

Warnings: takes place in both 2010 and 2015
Rating: PG
Pairings: Harry Styles/Louis Tomlinson
Wordcount: 500
Point of view: third
Prompt: any, any +/ any

There are some in this world who have strength on their own
Never broken or in need of repair
But there are some born to shine who can't do it alone
So protect them and take special care
Take care
(Don't Forget Me by Smash Cast)

That first time on the stage with White Eskimo, he'd thought, Yes, I want to do this forever. It was fun but just a lark, for them. Harry wasn't foolish; he planned for other things, just in case. But he had a summer before college, so why not try? Newly sixteen, old enough to audition, and he’s standing on another stage, in front of people who've only ever been on his telly before.

He sings, thinking, Yes, this is what I want.

At bootcamp, he gives everything a thousand percent, exhilarated and terrified in equal measure; he can't follow the choreography to save his life, but he has fun with it, and he just can't stop smiling because this is it, this is his chance - he just wants to sing forever, to write and perform songs that mean something. There's even a brilliant boy in the toilet who asks for his autograph and a picture because "You're gonna win it all, you'll see," and Harry can't stop grinning for hours.

And then he's cut. The very last moment, his name isn't called. He nearly collapses on the stage but manages to stumble away bumping into that Irish boy who always had a crowd around him, and he just follows him because he doesn't know what else to do. Should probably call Mum but if he hears her voice, he's going to break down.

But one of the assistants asks for them to come back, and reads off a list of names, and Harry's shock and grief begins to turn to anger. Do they just want more footage of boys crying? Want to twist the knife a little more?

That boy from the toilet (Louis) catches his eye, nodding for him to go first, so Harry trudges back to the stage.

From that first song for an audience, Harry just wanted to sing. When his bandmates didn't want to go any further, Harry went to audition alone.

To be perfectly honest, he's not sure how he would've done it on his own, what would've happened if Nicole or Simon (he's still not sure who actually came up with the idea) hadn't suggested taking the five of them and putting them into a group together.

It's utterly mad, and despite the rocky start (and it was so rocky, what with Liam having planned on being a solo artist and Louis always trying to have a laugh), when he looks back on little sixteen-year-old him, standing on that stage alone -

"I have loved you," Louis sings, glancing his way in front of a crowd of 60,000 screaming people, "since we were eighteen."

Liam's clapping, Niall's dancing in place, and Zayn is gone (which still hurts, might always hurt), and Harry can't imagine having this life on his own. He counts off the beats in his head and then sings with Louis, "Long before we both thought the same thing, to love and be in love," and he can't look away.

Title: Jeanne d'Arc
Originalish - RPF
Prompt: Historical RPF. any before the 20th century. If they'd been alive now.

Joanna doesn't tell anyone when she begins to hear the voice. It tells her to fight, that her people are in danger, that she must take up the sword for what is right.

She's never even seen a sword and turns the music up to drown the voice out.

But the voice doesn't stop. It hounds her for weeks, talking about the Lord's work and destiny - but Joanna doesn't believe in her parents' god because how could he exist in a world with so much hurt? Any god who'd let it all happen isn't one she'll worship.

She nearly tells her brother, and then her mother, and finally breaks down in tears in front of Marie, who just holds her and lets her cry it out. By the time she's explained, Marie's just as worried as she is, but neither of them wants to tell their parents because Joanna doesn't want to be locked away somewhere, considered mad or dangerous.

The voice doesn't stop, but Joanna can go to Marie now, so it isn't so bad.

Joanna has no idea what the voice means by people, or fight - but she and Marie start volunteering at a youth center, and then a suicide prevention line, and Joanna researches social justice so much she decides to make it her career, and six years after the first time she heard the voice, when she's nineteen years old, she chooses to go into non-profit work, to help whoever needs help.

The voice lessens, and finally, when she's twenty-one and engaged to Marie, and her parents have finally accepted it, she realizes the voice is gone.

Title: the radio turns on, playing love songs
Fandom: One Direction RPF
Disclaimer: they’re real people so they belong to themselves; title & prompt from Gloria Trevi's 'Ángel de la Guarda'.
Warnings: MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH and mourning/grief
Pairings: Harry Styles/Louis Tomlinson
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 260
Point of view: third
Prompt: any. any.

Strange things happen when you're home alone.
You hear my voice, saying, 'hey love'
And in the shower, someone soaps up your back,
and the radio turns on, playing love songs.

He doesn't sing anymore. Not even a hum as he does the washing up, not a single murmured lyric along to the radio. Nothing. Mum tells him it's not healthy, and so do the doctors the boys keep dragging him to.

He's a singer, after all. Shouldn't he sing?

But he doesn't. They can keep on going if they want, even Zayn coming home, but he simply can't. Every time he opens his mouth, he remembers that he'll never hear that voice again, except from a speaker. Never in person. Never murmured against his skin, whispered into his mouth.

He barely talks, to anyone. Mum wants him to go home, let her swaddle him up in his childhood room, away from what's quickly becoming a mausoleum because he can't throw anything away. He hasn't even been on the internet to see what the fans are saying, or the press. It doesn't matter.

Nothing matters.

He keeps the radio blaring, a single song on repeat, and it is never going to make him feel better. But every time that pause happens, right before -

Every time, he stops wherever in the house he is, this house they chose together, this house they would've raised children in, where they've laughed and loved in every room, and he remembers the way Louis looked at him the first time he ever sang this song, and he nearly whispers along with the solo he wrote only for Louis.

you're all i want, so much it's hurting

*nods* It's not often the future you imagine for your child, or the career you want them to go through... do things that you couldn't or wouldn't or didn't. :-/

And oh Joanna... though she's found this work (and Marie), it's now a lot less dangerous and she's a lot less likely to get murdered for doing it (I'd think). :)

And the loss in the last fic is really heartbreaking :(

Yeah, I really regretted writing that last one.

Thank you for reading!
